The Czech Republic has announced the end of checks on lorries at the Slovak border from midnight on Thursday (May 22). The checks were introduced in March after an outbreak of foot and mouth disease (FMD) in Slovakia. According to the Czech Ministry of Agriculture, vehicles over 3.5 tons from Slovakia can use any border crossing with the Czech Republic again without disinfection. However, random road checks will continue to be carried out. The Ministry also said that the FMD situation in Hungary and Slovakia remains stable, with no new cases detected since mid-April. As a result, the Czech government has decided to gradually relax its emergency veterinary measures. Last week, it lifted a ban on imports of susceptible animals from Hungary and Slovakia.
